Markazul Ta’leem– Youth Curriculum (Ages 10–18)
Program: Sunni Shafi’i Traditional & Contemporary Studies

To make it easy for parents to navigate, the syllabus is structured into three progressive stages: Junior Youth (Ages 10–12), Intermediate Youth (Ages 13–15), and Senior Youth (Ages 16–18), all firmly rooted in the Sunni Shafi’i tradition.

Welcome to the Youth Program at Markazul Ta’leem. We cater to school-going children and teenagers from the ages of 10 to 18, guiding them through their critical transition from childhood to young adulthood.

Our curriculum is designed to provide a structured, age-appropriate progression in Sunni Islamic Sciences according to the Shafi’i School (Madhhab). We combine classical texts with contemporary engagement, ensuring our students grow up intellectually resilient, spiritually grounded, and morally upright.

Program Structure by Age Group

To ensure students are met at their correct developmental and cognitive levels, our 10–18 syllabus is divided into three distinct stages:

STAGE 1: JUNIOR YOUTH (Ages 10–12)

Focus: Building Love, Routine, and Foundations

At this stage, students transition from childhood rules to understanding personal responsibility. The focus is on perfecting the mechanics of worship and learning the beauty of the Prophet’s (ﷺ) character.

Jurisprudence (Fiqh):

Text: Al-Mukhtasar al-Latif (The Gracious Summary) by Imam Abdullah Ba-Fadhal al-Hadhrami.

Focus: A beautiful, introductory Shafi’i text covering the absolute essentials of purification (Taharah), the pillars of prayer (Salah), and basic conditions of fasting.

Theology (Aqeedah):

Text: Aqeedat al-Awwam (The Creed of the Common Folk) by Imam Ahmad al-Marzuqi.

Focus: Students learn to memorize and understand this beautiful poetic text covering the necessary attributes of Allah, the Names of the Prophets, and the Prophet’s (ﷺ) family.

Prophetic Character (Akhlaq & Seerah):

Text: Our Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) / Selections from Shama’il al-Muhammadiyyah (The Prophetic Description) by Imam al-Tirmidhi.

Focus: Learning the physical and moral description of the Prophet (ﷺ) to foster deep love and emulate his daily manners (Adab) with parents, elders, and friends.

STAGE 2: INTERMEDIATE YOUTH (Ages 13–15)

Focus: Navigating Puberty (Bulugh) and Developing Personal Conviction

As youth enter physical maturity (Bulugh), they face changes in their bodies, social lives, and school environments. This stage equips them with the precise legal rules of maturity and a solid framework of orthodox belief.

Jurisprudence (Fiqh):

Text: Safinat al-Najah (The Ship of Salvation) by Sheikh Salim bin Sumayr al-Hadrami.

Focus: An intermediate study of Shafi’i fiqh covering deep rules of purification, the invalidators of prayer, congregational prayer, and the detailed laws of Fasting (Sawm) and Zakat.

Theology (Aqeedah):

Text: The Creed of Imam al-Ghazali (Risalat al-Qudsiyyah).

Focus: Introducing students to logical proofs for the existence of Allah and establishing a strong cognitive defense against materialistic ideas they encounter in middle school.

Hadith & Spiritual Devotion:

Text: Al-Arba’een al-Nawawiyyah (The Forty Hadith of Imam al-Nawawi) – Part 1.

Focus: Studying the first 20 Hadiths of this foundational Shafi’i collection, focusing on intentions, pure living, honesty, and holding oneself accountable.

STAGE 3: SENIOR YOUTH (Ages 16–18)

Focus: Intellectual Leadership and Modern Challenges

Our oldest cohort is prepared for university, work, and independent life. We focus on advanced legal rulings, comparative ethics, and defending the faith in secular environments.

Jurisprudence (Fiqh):

Text: Matn Abi Shuja’ (Al-Ghayat wa al-Taqrib) by Imam Abu Shuja’ al-Asfahani.

Focus: Broadening their Shafi’i legal horizon to cover business transactions (Mu’amalat), dietary laws (Halal/Haram), and family law (Nikah).

Theology (Aqeedah):

Text: Al-Aqidah al-Tahawiyyah by Imam Abu Ja’far al-Tahawi.

Focus: Comprehensive study of orthodox Sunni theology, tackling modern-day doubts, secularism, atheism, and sectarianism with intellectual rigor.

Purification of the Soul (Tazkiyah):

Text: The Beginning of Guidance (Bidayat al-Hidayah) by Imam Abu Hamid al-Ghazali.

Focus: Understanding spiritual diseases of the heart (jealousy, pride, vanity) and developing a practical program of daily devotion and spiritual discipline.

QURANIC STUDIES & REFLECTION (TAFSEER) – Across All Ages

Regardless of age, all students engage in systematic Quranic study focused on reflection (Tadabbur) and practical life application:

Ages 10–12: Memorization and vocabulary of Juz ‘Amma (short Surahs) with lessons on gratitude and creation.

Ages 13–15: Study of Surah Luqman (parental advice, respect, and prayer) and Surah al-Kahf (stories of faith, wealth, and knowledge).

Ages 16–18: Study of Surah al-Hujurat (the ethics of social media, brotherhood, speaking kindly, and avoiding gossip) and selections from Surah al-Furqan (characteristics of the servants of the Most Merciful).

WEEKLY CONTEMPORARY SEMINARS (Ages 15–18)

In addition to classical texts, our high schoolers participate in interactive discussion circles addressing real-world concerns:

Maintaining a strong Muslim identity in a secular school system.
The Shafi’i perspective on student finance, modern transactions, and ethics.
Navigating peer pressure, mental health, anxiety, and finding peace in prayer.
Understanding halal boundaries in friendship, speech, and gender relations.
